Conference held at Tygart Lake Lodge with WVDEP Chief Communications Officer Terry Fletcher. WVDEP officials also said that the department values public input and will consider all comments as part of its final determination. Public comments can also be submitted in writing through the WVDEP’s website.

Another conference regarding Leer Mine IBR-26 (pond expansion, & discharge of 100gpm into Sandy Creek) was requested and granted by the DEP. Conference to be held Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at Tygart Lake Lodge.

Several members of the community showed up yesterday afternoon to voice their concerns, but they were left with more questions than answers. Public comments can be emailed to Larr.E.Kade@wv.gov until the end of the month.

On February 24, 2025, ICG Tygart Valley, LLC publicized their application for a revision to existing permits to allow Leer Deep Mine to discharge 1,000 gpm to a proposed pond and then into Little Sandy Creek. The Department of Environmental Protection issued an Administrative Order to ICG Tygart Valley, LLC on June 5, 2025 and a revised order on June 9, 2025. STTWA requested an informal conference to be held at 4:00 p.m. July 10, 2025 at Tygart Lake Lodge.
